Need Supervision for Your Virtual Learner?

Northside Community Involvement, Inc. created a supervised Learning Center in August 2020 in response to the COVID-19 partial shut down of face-to-face learning at Duval County schools. The Learning Center is open to accept children enrolled in virtual learning classes with the local school district. The parents bring their children into the Learning Center before the hour of 8:00 a.m. and pick up their children after 3:00 p.m. The children are left with an onsite supervisor/teacher. The students bring their own laptop, lunch, and masks. The students sit six feet apart and work on their individual virtual classes. The supervisor/teacher monitors the student's work and ensures that the students complete their assignments. At the end of the school day, the onsite teacher/supervisor allows the students to participate in planned activities until the parents pick up the students either from the NCI Learning Center or from the Child Development Center. One positive outcome observed in the Learning Center is the contact the supervisor/teacher has with the parent, the online teacher and the student.
